Troubleshooting
Help with various questions
- The coffee is probably ground too finely. Please set the grind to a coarser setting (Note: only adjust the grind level while the grinder is running!). If you are using the powder chute, please ensure you do not use coffee powder that is too finely ground.
- Please clean the SPUMATORE frothing aid thoroughly (in its disassembled state) by following the corresponding instructions in the user manual. It is important to remove any caked-on milk residues – especially in the upper suction valve of the SPUMATORE. Please ensure regular cleaning and use cold water (to prevent protein in the milk from causing blockages).
- Yes, this is normal. After each coffee is brewed, the residual water from the coffee grounds and the excess pressure from the brewing process are directed as water through the inside of the machine into the drip tray.
- First, you can choose between mild, normal, or strong coffee at the touch of a button (this adjusts the amount of ground coffee, between 7 and 11 g per cup). The grind level should be set to the middle range. Then, you should try an espresso or a coffee. If the espresso is too strong or too weak, you should adjust the amount of coffee accordingly (e.g., if it's too strong, set it to normal or mild; if it's too weak, choose more coffee grounds, i.e., normal or strong). After making this adjustment, you can fine-tune it using the grind level (Note: only adjust the grind level while the grinder is running). For a more intense flavor, such as for an espresso, you should now slowly decrease the grind size; for a milder coffee, set it coarser – until you have achieved the optimal result for your taste.
- At the back end of the drip tray, there are two metal contacts – the space between them must be clean and dry. Please also ensure that the corresponding contacts inside the machine housing are equally dry and free of residue.
Cleaning
Questions about cleaning NIVONA fully automatic coffee machines
- Yes, because only a well-cleaned and descaled espresso machine ensures long-lasting, trouble-free coffee enjoyment. Please follow the instructions on your machine's display and in the user manual.
- Please use the Premium Liquid Descaler or commercially available, preferably liquid, descalers specifically for fully automatic coffee machines. Never descale with citric acid, vinegar, or even formic acid, as this will destroy the seals inside the machine.
- No, we do not recommend this – as mineral water also contains minerals, calcium, and magnesium, which can lead to limescale buildup. We recommend using clear tap water instead, as well as regular descaling and operating the machine with a CLARIS fresh water filter.
